  • Fire Safety Awareness

Regularly visiting many of our area schools is vital to the role the AVFD plays in Fire Safety Awareness, and Education. The AVFD participates in classroom activities, by educating students as to how our department functions, and what we as firefighters encounter in fire situations. We also instruct students in planning escape routes in case of fire, and how to call upon us in emergency situations.

  • Training

Each year the AVFD offers a Fire Training Academy which teaches recruit or "probationary" firefighters the basic skills of firefighting. After graduation from the AVFD fire Academy Classes, we then offer continued skills education on an ongoing basis regularly throughout the year.

Our firefighters are some of the best trained and most highly motivated in the area, and we are proud to offer our academy classes to other departments in the area as well.

We are proud to have in our department Instructors that teach firefighter skills in a variety of places such as the City of Houston Fire Department, Texas A&M University, Cy-Fair Fire Academy, the Harris County Fire and Emergency Services Training Center, and various other places.
