I was scared by the flames and trapped
by the smoke. I was afraid you wouldn't find me, until I had choked. Then I
heard my name called and I yelled, afraid you hear. But you did, you found me
and pulled me near. You placed on me, your mask of life. With all your brothers
helping, you made it, holding me through the fight. Through the fire you dared
to race, as you kept death from my face. Down a ladder we went, to my parents
arms, your breath spent. Then you take back your mask and return to your task,
now that this part of your job is done. Then I smile, because I knew I was safe.
How did I know I was safe and away from harm? Because you held me safe, in your
firemans' arms.
