Frequently Asked Questions
If I have a medical emergency, is it best to drive to one of your stations?
NO! If you have any kind of emergency, you should dial 911. If you drive up to the station, the ambulance at that station might be on another call, and it will take longer to get another ambulance to you then if you had just called right away. Always dial 911.
DO you allow birthday parties at the stations?
No, unfortunately are unable to allow birthday parties at our stations. We do, however, allow tours of the stations, and you are always welcome to stop by and look at the fire trucks.
Do you offer CPR or other classes to the community?
Yes, we have a large section of our website devoted to our community education offerings, please see the "Community Education" section of our website for detailed information and class schedules. Or you can go directly to our CPR registration website: https://www.eventbrite.com/o/atascocita-fire-department-community-education-11970783997

Is the Atascocita Fire Department a paid or volunteer department?
Both! AFD has been proudly staffed by volunteers since 1978. Over time, as the service demands increased, AFD has started increasing paid staffing levels and now staffs MICU (paramedic) ambulances and pumpers 24/7 with both paid personnel and volunteer firefighters. To ensure quick response times, AFD volunteers must ride on crew at the station, and do not respond from their homes. Regardless of the time of day, or day of the week, AFD has several apparatus staffed and ready to assist you in your time of need 24/7.
I do not live in Atascocita, can I still join the department?
YES! We have several members that live outside of Atascocita and doing so is easy beacuse all volunteers are required to ride on a duty crew at the station anyways.
I want to join the fire department, what are your requirements?
That is great! We always need volunteers. Please click here to see the recruiting page for detailed information, but generally, you will need to apply for membership and go through our Fire Fighter Recruit Class, where you will learn everything you need to know to start fighting fires. If you are an experianced fire fighter, you may not need to attend the recruit class. Once you are a member, AVFD requires you to ride a minimum of two 12 hour shifts a month. If you ride additional shifts, you may qualify for AVFD's stipend program. Please contact use for additional details, or contact fire@avfd.com
Where is Atascocita, TX located.
Atascocita is a suburb of Houston, located to the northeast of the City of Houston, by George Bush Intercontinental Airport. We are just outside Beltway 8, and boarder the City of Houston on 3 sides and Humble on the other.
