Brush fire along FM 1960 consumes nearly an acre - 4100 block of FM 1960 west of Woodland Hills
Wednesday, June 1, 2011
Fire fighters from the Atascocita Volunteer Fire Department responded to the call at noon at FM 1960 and Woodland Hills. Fire fighters of the Porter and Huffman Fire Departments assisted in fighting the blaze that consumed nearly an acre. As of 2 p.m., the fire had been extinguished but fire fighters were still monitoring the area for hotspots. AVFD officials said traffic was moving slowly in the area because the fire reached all the way to the ditch running alongside FM 1960, but traffic has since returned to normal. According to AVFD spokesman Anthony Turner, the cause of the fire is unknown. Harris County remains under a burn ban and the AVFD reminds area residents to report even small fires immediately. Outdoor burning is prohibited unless the fire is contained in a container such as a barbecue grill or pit. AVFD urges residents to be extra vigilant with cigarettes and other sources of sparks.
