Atascocita Fire Department Announces Delivery of Twins
Wednesday, November 18, 2020

Humble, TX. (November 17, 2020) -- The purchase of the two new ambulances was approved by ESD 46 in December of last year and ordered in early 2020 but when the COVID-19 pandemic took hold of the country in the Spring manufacturers of mid-size trucks, such as those used as the foundation in most ambulance builds, were forced to slow production and the ultimate delivery of these twin ambulances took about nine months, just like the babies our EMS crews occasionally get to help deliver.

As the Atascocita community continues to grow and evolve, the Atascocita Fire Department, which offers both fire and emergency medical services, must keep pace with the changing dynamics of the district.  AFD currently has three ambulances staffed 24/7.  One of the new ambulances will be used to expand the ambulance fleet to four full-time staffed ambulances, while the second ambulance will replace an aging unit and enable the district to maintain the industry recommended level of reserve units.  The reserve units are put into service when an ambulance must be taken out of service for maintenance or repairs.

The Atascocita Fire Department is a full service, agency made up of career and volunteer personnel.  It averages around 5,000 calls for service annually and responds from three stations located within the Harris County ESD 46 district.  The district’s headquarters is centrally located on Timber Forest Dr. A new maintenance facility located on Rustic Timbers Dr., which will provide regular maintenance and repairs to the AFD fleet, is expected to open by the end of this month.
